The ancient practice of yoga is a great wellness tool that rewards with many health benefits. Yoga is an exercise that involves different positions, breathing techniques, and meditation. There is a great range of benefits from yoga and your sex life is also one of them! There are many areas in your sex life that yoga can help with, this ultimately leaves you feeling empowered and sexy in your body. I keep up with my yoga routine because it reaches into so many areas of my life, and being even somewhat regular with activity improves a lot over time. When I am at my best, I am doing yoga 20-60 minutes a day, and I go walk for about 20-60 minutes (either leisure or going to run an errand). I feel like these activities combined over time help you lead a very active lifestyle that benefits your sex life.
Yoga For A Good Sex Life
Yoga Improves Sex for Women
In this study, women were found to have an increase in all their sexual functions ( i.e. desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain) from yoga. This was especially noticed in older women! Yoga is clearly an incredibly powerful tool that people can really benefit from in their sex life and libido.
Benefits of Yoga in Areas Important to Great Sex and Masturbation
When I do yoga every day as part of a routine I feel more present in my life. Presence is the focus on and awareness of the current moment or task at hand. Presence is key to relationships with others and with yourself. It gives you the perspective to ask what you are needing at this moment to be the most you can be.
This is probably the most obvious benefit but do not allow that to be a reason to underrate flexibility. There are so many positions I can think of where tight knees or hips would be a literal pain. Every day that I do yoga I feel such a difference in flexibility in many groups of muscles. It’s almost addicting to see how far you can stretch after a while of doing yoga 😉
It can be difficult to feel sexy when you are super stressed out all the time. Yoga is great because it reduces cortisol levels in the body. Sometimes it feels like too much to go straight into orgasm to reduce stress. Orgasms can be a great tool to deal with stress and feel more grounded, but sometimes you need a different route to relax. When I feel this way, I usually do some self-care activities like moisturizing and yoga to ease into the idea of being sensual and then sexual with myself.
There are all sorts of ways that are marketed to people to lose weight. I honestly had the best of luck losing weight by maintaining a yoga routine with my active lifestyle. Losing weight can really add confidence, which is a definite boost to your sex drive. I definitely have felt the leanest and sexiest when I was regularly doing yoga. Whenever I am lacking yoga in my life, I definitely gain a little weight and feel a bit off. Keeping up a wellness routine helps regulate weight. Yoga absolutely helps me tone up muscles as well as increase my flexibility.
Yoga benefits extend into gut health as well. It feels less than sexy to not be able to enjoy yourself before or after a meal. I find that anywhere from light to heavy yoga stretches in the mornings keeps me feeling less bloated, irritable, and I digest faster throughout the day. Most of the fun sex positions have quite a lot of impact and it helps to digest well.
Pelvic health is vital to sexual wellness. Facilitating pleasure and intimacy in the pelvic area will positively affect your sex life, yoga can help this by reducing tightness in the pelvic area. Yoga works to relieve and heal pelvic pain. Gentle yoga can also help some women with their period pain, it relieves heavy cramps and reduces PMS.
Yoga can be a soothing practice similar to some as medication, exercise, relaxation, and meditation. Yoga greatly benefits those affected by mental illnesses like depression and anxiety. It can reduce the impact of stress which will benefit those affected by depression.
Yoga absolutely increases your stamina. For both men and women, this can be very useful in bed. Stamina is associated with lasting longer in bed which improves sex!
Poses That Improve Sex
All of these wonderful poses will improve your sex life by improving presence, flexibility, weight loss, digestion, pelvic health, depression, and stamina. Of course, there are many other areas that yoga can benefit any person in, these, however, seemed the most relevant to sexual wellness. Healthy sex is just as important to have as a great meal and great sleep!
Cat Pose (Marjaryasana) and Cow Pose (Bitilasana)
Cat Pose and Cow Pose are often practiced together to give these stretches their full effect. These two poses help loosen the spine, straighten posture and increase flexibility in the pelvic area.
Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)
I am a huge fan of Bridge Pose! It works to strengthen your pelvic floor. This pose also lessens the pain associated with sex for many. This can really aid women seeking to enjoy sex.
Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana)
This pose is wonderful for stretching the lower half of your body, which is great for increasing flexibility for sex. It stretches your glutes, lower back, and hips. This pose helps relax my hips a lot personally and I use it throughout the day to relax, outside of my yoga practice.
It also doubles as a sex position similar to missionary. To try it in bed, get into this pose with your partner on top, then stretch your legs and wrap them around your partner’s torso.
One-Legged Pigeon (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana)
There are many variations of Pigeon Pose. This is an amazing hip opener, tight hips can make sex uncomfortable. This can limit you and make trying new sex positions difficult or seem impossible. This pose will ease your hip open, and there are many variations to try to further the stretch.
Child’s Pose (Balasana) and Supported Child’s Pose
Child’s Pose is a deep relaxation pose that works well to open your hips. There are many variations of child’s pose as it is a central pose in beginners’ yoga.
Corpse Pose (Savasana)
Corpse Pose is a favorite pose of mine to end my yoga sessions with. This is another deep relaxation pose that I would recommend. Corpse pose is a nice time to meditate after the rush of a great yoga work out. It is a time to be very grounded in the moment, to notice each part of your body and how it relaxes. This is a great way to end any yoga routine.
Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)
Cobra Pose is especially good for anyone experiencing pelvic pain. It loosens abdominal tightness and strengthens muscles in the pelvic area. This tightness can occur from scarring. Stretching the pelvic floor, regardless of scarring is great for sex.
Yoga Also Improves Sex for Men
Bow Pose (Dhanurasana)
The Bow Pose has been found to increase sexual functions in men in this study. Men were found to have improvements in all areas of sexual function such as desire, intercourse satisfaction, performance, confidence, partner synchronization, erection, ejaculation control, and orgasm. Yoga is a great benefit for any man looking to improve his sex life, even premature ejaculation.
Yoga Props To Extend Relaxation
If you are looking for a yoga mat alternative I recommend woven blankets. Here is a simple woven yoga blanket and here is an organic woven yoga blanket. Yoga mat alternatives are neat because they are more environmentally friendly and less toxic than PVC and conventionally made yoga mats.
For a deeper stretch, especially when beginning yoga I would recommend a yoga block or a yoga strap. This is a multi-loop strap that I would love to try one day. It looks pretty intense and fun to use!
I challenge you to take care of yourself, and perhaps try out these nice things if you need them.
